Brittany Skov

 
 

Brittany Skov (she/her) began her PhD in the clinical psychology program at Lakehead University in 2025, and is supervised by Dr. Christopher Mushquash and Dr. Jennifer Walker. She is a Mississauga-Anishinaabekwe (Anishinaabe woman; Mississauga's of the Credit First Nation) with mixed European descent. Brittany is a Vanier Scholar, supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Brittany's research focusses on reducing the onset and progression of chronic illnesses among First Nations adults, with a focus on dementia and cognitive impairment; promoting healthy brain aging; culturally safe psychological assessment, community-based Indigenous health research, and improving access to culturally safe care through fostering Indigenization in psychology programs and other related fields. Brittany currently co-leads a New Frontiers in Research Fund project focused on developing culturally grounded dementia assessment tools and health guidance for Indigenous people in Canada. She is also a collaborator with the Canadian Consortium on Neurodegeneration and Aging (CCNA) research teams, focused on improving access to Indigenous dementia health communication in Canada and Australia. Her dissertation focuses on developing and evaluating a culturally and contextually relevant dementia risk reduction program for urban First Nations people. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, running, travelling, yoga, swimming in gitchi gami, and cooking vegan food.
